The latest Hollywood diet craze seems to be the Green Tea Diet. Even Johnny Depp, star of Pirates of the Caribbean, is getting in on it.
Why Green Tea?
According to Sarah Siddons at Discovery Health, green tea contains antioxidants, and has anticarcinogenic and metabolic properties.
Research has shown that EGCG may boost the metabolism and suppress appetite—two things needed for weightloss. In addition to the EGCG, green tea also contains caffeine which increases thermogenis.
How do you do it?
According to several sites on the web, green tea can be taken a couple ways. Drinking it is one wayand taking a pill is another. The pill is said to give a higher dose of ECGC and make the diet a bit easier for those on the go. In addition, the pill can also provide a caffeine-free option for those sensitive to caffeine.
So does the Green Tea Diet work?
That can’t be answered here, but taking what green tea is reported to do by boosting the metabolism, acting as an appetite suppressant and increasing thermogenisis, it seems it may be possible.
Anyone thinking about changing their diet should consult their physician before doing so.
