We purchase a couple of ounces of Organic Tea Forest Green from Tao of Tea for a second time in the past two years. What makes this tea special is that it is harvested from old growth tea “trees” that have matured to fifty feet tall and more than seven hundred years old.
The first steeping caught the nose with a delightful floral scent. The first tasting was equally pleasing to the palate. The liquor was semi sweet with floral hints. A subtle flavor seemed to be lurking.
Not being able to place our fingers on it, we looked at the description offered at Tao of Tea’s website. Sure enough, what we were getting the hint of was a slight licorice flavor. It was not over powering, but enough to give this tea a nice finish.
We steeped this first sample two additional times. By the third, it was still giving a fine tasting liquor however a little more diminished than the first.
Recommendation: Because this tea is very fine quality and comes from very old tea trees, it would make a great gift for anyone that enjoys green tea. It is a little bit bolder in flavor than a white tea, so sensitive palates may not appreciate it as much. Still, we highly recommend this tea for any one who enjoys high quality tea.
Where to buy: Currently, Tao of Tea offers this tea at their store on S.E. Belmont in Portland or on their website for $4.00 per ounce or $10.00 by the tin.
Preparation: Preparation is key. For Tea Forest Green, it is recommended to use high quality water at a temperature of 150°F degrees. Leave steep for 2-3 minutes
